The Walnut Park West Neighborhood is located in northwest St Louis City. The borders for the neighborhood are West Florissant Avenue to the northeast, Riverview Blvd to the southeast, Interstate 70 to the southwest and the City Limits, just beyond Goodfellow, to the west. Surrounding neighborhoods include the North Pointe Neighborhood to the northeast, the Walnut Park East Neighborhood to the east-southeast and the Mark Twain/I-70 Industrial Neighborhood to the south. St. Louis County and the City of Jennings Missouri lie to the west of the City Limits.
Several of the 111 St. Louis City parks are found nearby in the surrounding neighborhoods. These parks provides many recreational opportunities for the residents living in those neighborhoods. One of them is Dwight Davis Park. The features of Dwight Davis include 9.6 acres of parkland, a playground, a basketball court, soccer, softball and baseball fields, a multi-purpose court, tennis courts, a fun spray pool and more. Another city park is Walnut Park, located at Lillian and Thrush, which features two basketball courts and over 2 acres of parkland. Both of these parks are in the Walnut Park East Neighborhood. Another city park is the Vivian Astra Park which is a "greenspace" park with just over an acre of parkland located at Vivian and Astra in the North Pointe Neighborhood.
The St. Louis Public Library has one of its 15 branch libraries, Walnut Park Branch Library, located nearby in the Walnut Park East Neighborhood on West Florissant Avenue.
The St. Louis Public School District serves the neighborhood residents. It does not have any district schools in Walnut Park West, but there are two elementary schools in North Pointe, Herzog Elementary School on Pamplin Place and Nance Elementary School on Riverview Blvd. Other district schools that are nearby are the Northwest Academy of Law High School, a college preparatory high school, and Walbridge Elementary School in Walnut Park East.
