American Industrial Transport, formerly known as American Railcar Industries, is headquartered in St. Charles, Missouri. It was founded in 1864 as the Milton Car Works which manufactured the first railroad tank cars. In 2019 it was purchased by the Greenbriar Companies and rebranded and services offer were expanded. Today AITX designs and manufactures new railcars, railcar parts, and operates a network of railcar repair centers, as well as leasing and managing over 16,000 tanks and covered hopper cars serving the petroleum, chemical, food, agriculture, fertilizer and plastic pellet markets.
