The City of Troy Illinois is located in Madison Illinois, about 30 minutes northeast of Downtown St Louis via Interstate 70/55. Important roads for the community of Troy are Edwardsville Road, Market Street, Center Street, Main Street, Collinsville Road, Staunton Road, Clay Street, Riggin Road, Lower Marine Road, Interstate 70/55, Highway 40 and many more. Troy was incorporated as a "town" in 1857 and then was officially incorporated as a "city" in 1892. The population of the City of Troy Illinois was 9,888 residents in 2010

The residents of Troy are served by the public school district Triad Community School Unit District #2. The district has 4 elementary schools with 2 of them, the Silver Creek Elementary School and the Henning Elementary School, located within Troy, one middle school and Triad High School. Also located in Troy is St Paul's Lutheran School, a private school that provides education for students Pre-School through 8th grade.

Tri Township Park offers the residents of Troy many options for recreation and relaxation. The amenities of the park include a seasonal petting zoo, a fishing lake, many shelters and pavilions for picnics and outings, walking trails totaling 1.75 miles, a skateboard park, athletic fields for soccer and football, courts for tennis, basketball and volleyball, baseball diamonds and a community center with banquet facilities. The park is host to many community events such as the annual Homecoming in July, a Fireworks display on the 4th of July, Santa's Village during December, Adventure Night in October, concerts and movie nights in the summer months and many more.
