Sainte Genevieve was founded by French Canadians in 1735 and is located about one hour south of St. Louis along the banks of the Mississippi River. There is much to do in Historic Sainte Genevieve. Tour the historic homes and buildings in the National Historic Landmark District. Three of the five French Creole vernacular style of architecture constructed homes that are found in the entire United States are located in Sainte Genevieve.
Many visitors to Sainte Genevieve come to enjoy the annual events and festivals that are held throughout the year. Those events and festivals include The French Heritage Festival with music, dancing, french cuisine, wine tasting and historical re-enactments held in June, or the Jour de Fete, the area's largest craft fair with food and entertainment held in August.
