Arcadia Valley is made up of the Missouri towns of Pilot Knob, Ironton and Arcadia. It is located about 1 hour and 45 minutes south of Downtown St. Louis via Interstate 55, Highway 67, and then Highway 21. Several very popular Missouri attractions are located in Arcadia Valley. They include the Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, Elephant Rocks State Park and the Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site which includes the ruins of Fort Davidson.
One of the biggest draws of the Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park is the Black River and the swimming holes that are found in the rock formations. On any warm summer's day, the park is populated by visitors coming to swim! The park does also offer campsites and has a Visitor Center, restrooms and showers. The Elephant Rocks State Park is made up of giant sized granite boulders that resemble the shape of elephants. Several trails, including a paved interpretative Braille trail, along with picnic sites are found in the park. The ruins of Fort Davidson is located in Pilot Knob at the Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site which is the site of a Civil War battle. A Visitor Center is located at the site with exhibits interpreting the battle and every three years in September, the Battle of Pilot Knob is reenacted at Fort Davidson.
