Just like most of the surrounding counties, Lincoln County was founded in 1818 and its county seat is located in Troy Missouri. The county covers over 640 square miles.
Lincoln County lies to the north of the St. Charles County, across the Cuivre River and the Big Creek. The entire eastern border of Lincoln County lies along the Mississippi River. Pike County competely forms its northern border and part of its western border as well. Montgomery County and Warren County lie to the west and southwest, respectively.
Some of the larger communities that are located in Lincoln County are Troy, Moscow Mills, Elsberry and Winfield. Several school districts serve the residents of the county. Those include Winfield, Lincoln County, Elsberry and Silex school districts.
