The Southampton Neighborhood, nicknamed "SoHa" by its residents, is located in southwest St Louis City. The boundaries of the neighborhood are Chippewa on the north, Kingshighway Blvd on the east, Eichelberger Street on the south and Hampton Avenue on the west. Surrounding neighborhoods are the Bevo Mill to the east, the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood is to the west, the Princeton Heights Neighborhood to the south and the North Hampton Neighborhood to the north.
The City of St. Louis has one of its 111 parks in just about every neighborhood of the city. Southampton does not have one of them, but is fortunate to have two located in the surrounding neighborhoods. One of them is Tilles Park at Hampton and Flyer Avenue in North Hampton. Tilles Park provides the community with 29 acres of parkland, a playground, athletic fields for soccer fields, softball and baseball; a full court basketball court, racquetball and tennis courts. Another large park that is closeby in the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood is the 60 acre Francis Park at Donovan and Eichelberger. This park provides handball and racquetball courts, a playground, a soccer field, softball fields and tennis courts.
St. Louis City residents have ready access to public libraries. The St. Louis Public Library system has 15 branch libraries located throughout the city. The Buder Library Branch, located on Hampton Avenue in the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood, and the Machacek Library Branch on Scalna Avenue in the Lindenwood Park Neighborhood, are two branches that are close to the residents in the Southampton Neighborhood.
St. Louis Public School District is the local school district for the neighborhood. Buder Elementary School is on Lansdown Avenue and the only district school located in the Southampton Neighborhood. Others in surrounding neighborhoods are Kennard Classical Junior Academy Elementary School, a Magnet School located in the North Hampton Neighborhood on Potomac that serves students in Preschool through 5th grade. Busch Middle School of Character which is also a Magnet School that serves students in grades 6th through 8th and is located in the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood on Clifton Avenue. Long Middle School and Woerner Elementary School are both located in the Bevo Mill Neighborhood.
Several private schools are also available to local residents. St. Joan of Arc Catholic School is an elementary and middle school located on Pernod Avenue in the North Hampton Neighborhood. St. John the Baptist Elementary School, a Catholic elementary and middle school, is found in the Bevo Mill Neighborhood on Delor Street. Four private schools are located in the St. Louis Hills Neighborhood, St. Gabriel the Archangel School is on Tamm Avenue; St. Raphael the Archangel School is on Jamieson Avenue, two Catholic elementary and middle schools; the main campus of the Word of Life Lutheran School for grades 4th through 8th is found on Eichelberger Street; and Bishop Dubourg High School, a Catholic high school, also on Eichelberger Street. Two are in the Princeton Heights Neighborhood, Hope Lutheran School is located on Brannon Avenue and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School is on South Kingshighway.
