The St. Clair County Historical Society is located in Belleville Illinois and was founded in 1905. The Society maintains the Victorian Home Museum, a 1866 brick Greek Revival family home; the Emma Kunz house, a 1830's typical German Street home; and the Messinger Cemetery and Veteran's Memorial. The Historical Society is also restoring another historically important home in the Belleville area, that of Gustave Koerner who was the first German in Illinois to be elected to the Illinois Legislature and he was also elected to be the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in 1852. The artifacts and information that the Society maintains are about St. Clair County and Belleville.
The offices of the St. Clair County Historical Society are in the Victorian Home Museum. Hours are Monday thru Friday, 10am - 2pm, an admission fee is charged. The Society provides services including information, a library reference, tours, a gift shop and member services. See website for more information.
