The National Great Rivers Museum is located at the Melvin Price Locks and Dam in Alton Illinois. The Museum's exhibits highlight the importance of the Mississippi River to the people who have and still live near it and daily use it's resources, as well as the wildlife and their habitats that depend on it. Tours of the locks and dam facility are given daily. Visitors are taken outside on the dam, so dress appropriately.
The Museum is open 9-5 daily (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day) and public tours of the locks and dam are given at 10am, 1pm and 3pm. Group reservations are required. And admission is FREE for the museum and tour!
