Scott Air Force Base is located near Belleville, Illinois, just 20 minutes east of downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The base has been in operation since 1917, during World War I. Its primary missions for the Air Force are to manage "a domestic aeromedical evacuation system, commanding and supervising all operational support airlift within the US and providing initial qualification training for C-9 pilots." Scott Air Force Base is also the location of the United States Transportation Command, one of 9 unified commands of the United States Department of Defense which is responsible for organizing the transportation of military forces to where ever they are needed around the world. Scott AFB can be reached from the Shiloh-Scott MetroLink station in Illinois.
