The City of Hillsboro Missouri is located in Jefferson County and is about 50 minutes south of Downtown St. Louis using Interstate 55. Important roads for Hillsboro are Missouri State Highway 21, Vreeland Road, State Highways A and BB, Business 21, Maple Street, Main Street and others. The city was officially incorporated in 1839 and is the Jefferson County Seat.
The City of Hillsboro continued to have an increase in population since 2000. Those residents are served by the public Hillsboro R-3 School District. There are five schools in the district. One Primary School (K-2nd), one Elementary School (3rd-4th), one Intermediate School (5th-6th), one Junior High (7th-8th), and Hillsboro High School (9th-12th). The public Grandview R-II School District also serves the Hillsboro area with a school campus that includes an elementary school, a middle school and Grandview High School. Two private schools are also available to the residents of Hillsboro, the Good Shepherd Catholic School (Pre-K-8th) and the Christian Outreach School (K-12). For those seeking higher education, Jefferson College, a two year college is located in Hillsboro.
There are several historic landmarks in and around the Hillsboro area. The Thomas C Fletcher House was built in 1851 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was the home of Missouri's 18th Governor and the state's first native born governor. Another landmark just a short drive north of Hillsboro is the Sandy Creek Bridge State Historic Site. The Sandy Creek Bridge was built in 1872 and is one of four covered bridges that remain in Missouri.
Recreation is readily available in Hillsboro. Golfers will find the Raintree Country Club, a public 18-hole golf course. The Hillsboro City Park offers two picnic pavilions, picnic sites, a playground, trails, lots of open space for a pick up game of soccer or flag football, and the Advance Challenge Course, a fitness course. A small community park is located in the city and offers a playground as well as the McMullin County Park with picnic tables and a pavilion.
