The City of Columbia, Illinois is located in Monroe County. It is located about 30 minutes southwest of Downtown St Louis Missouri. Important roads to Columbia are Route 3, Main Street, Rapp Avenue, Metter Street and others. The City of Columbia was laid out in 1820 by German settlers. It was first incorporated as a town in 1859 and then as a city in 1903.
Columbia, Illinois residents are served by the Columbia Community Unit School District #4. The district has one high school, Columbia High School, 9th through 12th; one Middle School, Columbia Middle School, which houses the 5 through 8th grades; and two Elementary Schools, Eagleview Elementary School, which has Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade; and Parkview Elementary School, which has 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades.
Columbia has many recreational facilities. Several parks, one of them being Bolm-Schuhkraft Memorial City Park, feature athletic fields for baseball, softball, soccer and football, basketball courts, inline skating rink, tennis courts, picnic facilities including 4 pavilions, walking trails, horseshoe pits and playgrounds. There are also three 18-hole, public golf courses located within Columbia: River Lakes Golf Course, Columbia Golf Course, and Columbia Bridges Golf Course.
