Tower Grove House is located in St. Louis, Missouri, on the grounds of the Missouri Botanical Garden. Designed by the architect George I. Barnett in the Italianate style, it was built in 1849 as the personal home of Henry Shaw. It is built on land that Henry Shaw, following his passion for Botany and working with experts, would turn into extensive gardens that he eventually would open to the public in 1859.
Today the Tower Grove House, expanded by the next director of the Garden, and restored by the Missouri Botanical Garden to reflect what it would have been like in Henry Shaw's time, is open to visitors. Entry to the home is included with the Garden admission. The historic home is open daily from 10am to 4pm, Wednesday through Sunday, April through December.
